About the Position
The Accounting Assistant provides accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, statistical, financial analysis and administrative support; to process, record, review and reconcile a variety of financial transactions; to maintain multiple databases; and to keep complete and accurate records of accounts payables, accounts receivable, reimbursable charges, project costing and cost accounting records.

The ideal candidate 
  • Detail oriented with an understanding of financial principals and ability to analyze data accurately.
  • Highly organized and proficient in managing accounts payable and receivable.
  • Ensuring compliance with accounting standards and maintaining accurate financial records.
  • Possess strong analytical skills and can resolve discrepancies in financial reports efficiently.
  • Team player with excellent communication skills, able to collaborate effectively with colleagues and clients to achieve common goals.
  • Strong work ethic and can meet deadlines consistently, managing multiple tasks simultaneously without compromising accuracy.

This recruitment is being conducted to fill one full-time vacancy in the Planning, Building and Environmental Services Department.  The list established by this recruitment may also be used to fill future full-time, part-time, limited term, and extra help vacancies for up to one year.

Position Requirements
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be: 

Accounting Assistant ($32.49 - 38.59) 
  • Experience: 
    Two years of progressive, directly-related experience in financial record keeping work preferably including experience with a government agency. 
  • Education: 
    Equivalent to completion of two years of college with course work in accounting, financial record keeping, or a closely related field.  (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the college education on a year-for-year basis.) 
License or Certificate*:
A position assigned to this class may require possession of a valid California Driver's License.
