Level I:

 $1,522.88- $1,819.98; Paid Biweekly


Level II: 

$1,733.74- $2,071.98; Paid Bi-weekly



Examination:

Appraisal (Weight 100%): of training, education, experience, interest and personal fitness for the work based on any combination of the following: Investigation, oral exam and rating of application.



Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination process.


Minimum Qualifications / Employment Standards:
Level I:

High School Diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent and two (2) years of experience repairing late model vehicles which incorporate front wheel drive, fuel injection systems, command control computer systems and transaxles; OR completion of an approved two (2) year automotive technology program.



Possession of a valid Class "C" California Driver's License prior to the time of appointment is required. Appointees are required to furnish their own hand tools in accordance with departmental policy.



Level II:

High School Diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent

AND

five (5) years of experience repairing late model vehicles which incorporate front wheel drive, fuel injection systems, command control computer systems and transaxles;

OR 

three (3) years as an Automotive Mechanic I in the Kern County system or equivalent; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.



The following five (5) ASE certifications are required: Engine Repair, Engine Performance, Electrical Systems, Heating and Air Conditioning, Brakes



Possession of a valid Class "B" California Driver's License by end of six month probation is required. Appointees are required to furnish their own hand tools in accordance with department policy.

  • The following five ASE certifications:
