Duties Summary

Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN-RX) provide direct advanced nursing care to patients by performing comprehensive health assessments for the purpose of disease prevention and health promotion. In addition to providing comprehensive health care, some positions are also responsible for clinic management, coordination of health services, nursing program evaluation, and/or nursing policy development.

The APRN-RX prescribes the appropriate medications/drugs within their scope of practice, as recognized in a collegial working relationship with a licensed physician and an exclusionary formulary.

WORKING CONDITIONS 
This position is located in the Department of Health, Adult Mental Health Division (AMHD), Hawaii County Community Mental Health Center Branch that provides comprehensive mental health treatment and case management services to adults who meet the AMHD's eligibility criteria including those with severe and persistent mental illnesses (SPMI) and other co-occurring disorders.  This position is responsible for providing direct psychiatric nursing, pharmacological, clinical and outpatient services and treatment responsibilities to adults with SPMI.  This position conducts psychiatric nursing and medical assessments for various types of referrals and situations (e.g., crisis management, urgent care, pharmacological services, forensic services, integrated substance abuse services; provides psychotherapy and psychiatric delivery services including psychopharmacological intervention (i.e., psychotropic medical management, intervention, and administration.) 

Psychiatric Mental Health APRN 
Positions in this specialty area provide psychiatric and mental health care and treatment services to clients in community, institution, and clinic settings. Examples of typical tasks include conducting medical/clinical psychiatric assessments, diagnosing and treating psychiatric illness(es) and/or mental health problems of clients using a variety of accepted examination and evaluation methods and theoretical approaches. 

Minimum Qualification Requirements

To qualify, you must meet ALL of the following requirements:

License/Recognition:
A. License to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Hawaii.
B. Recognition to practice as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse with Prescriptive Authority, in the State of Hawaii.

Positions in this class perform the duties and responsibilities of the APRN I and prescribe the appropriate medications/drugs within their scope of practice, as recognized in a collegial working relationship with a licensed physician and an exclusionary formulary.

Driver's License:  Some positions require a valid driver's license at the time of appointment. 

Specialty Practice Certification:  In order to effectively perform the work described above, applicants must have a current and valid specialty practice certification in either Adult Psychiatric - Mental Health or Psychiatric - Mental Health, as recognized by the State of Hawaii, Board of Nursing of the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs. 

Other Requirements: All applicants who are conditionally offered employment or conditionally approved for movement into this position shall be subject to drug screening, as required by Federal, State or local laws, or departmental policy; and will be subject to an intensive background check.
