Overview

An eligibility list is being established to fill current and future Extra Help vacancies for this position. This is a seasonal position. Generally, seasons run from February/March through September/October. We have an immediate need for the 2023 season. Opportunity to return for subsequent seasons may be available and is dependent upon program needs.

Extra Help employees are not eligible for promotional opportunities that are open to regular part-time and full-time employees.

About the Position: 
The Napa County Agricultural Commissioner and staff are responsible for the implementation of federal, State and local regulatory programs within Napa County. These programs are designed to protect people and the environment and to promote agriculture within the county. 

The Agricultural & Standards Service Worker I/II – Extra Help will assist the staff by performing a variety of assigned support tasks related to inspections, violations, and report writing.

This position requires punctuality and strong continuous attendance. Schedule flexibility during the season is minimal.

Telework Availability - Teleworking is not permitted during the first six (6) months of employment and/or during the first six (6) months of a probationary period. Should teleworking be permitted by a hiring department after the 6-month requirement, the County supports a telework schedule that consists of a maximum of two (2) days per week.  

Position Requirements:To qualify for this classification, an individual must possess any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the required knowledge and abilities. A desirable combination is:
Agricultural and Standards Service Worker I
  • Experience:
    No related experience is required.
  • Education:
    Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
  • License or Certificate:
    Possession of a valid California Driver's License is required for either classification.

Agricultural and Standards Service Worker II
  • Experience:
    No related experience is required.
  • Education:
    Equivalent to completion of two years of college with major coursework in agriculture or biological science, or a related field. (Additional qualifying experience performing work in pest detection, pest management, pest control operations, or other agricultural-related work can be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.)
  • License or Certificate:
    Possession of a valid California Driver's License is required for either classification.

    *Any license, certification, or registration required for this position shall be maintained (i.e., active and in good standing) at all times during employment with Napa County.  For continued employment with Napa County, you must maintain such license, certification, or registration to meet the minimum qualifications of this position

The Recruitment Process:
1. Applications will be accepted online on a continuous basis.

2. Subject Matter Experts will review responses from the supplemental questions on a continuous basis. The most qualified candidates from the scoring of supplemental questions will be invited to an Oral Panel Interview.

3. Oral Panel Interviews will be scheduled on a continuous basis by the hiring department.   Only the most qualified candidates from Oral Panel Interviews will be placed on the eligibility list and referred to the hiring manager for further consideration.

 Disaster Service Workers:
 Napa County employees automatically become Disaster Service Workers. This means that when Napa County experiences emergencies (earthquake, wildfire, power outage, flood, etc.) you may be asked to pivot from your regular duties to provide critical services to those affected by the emergency (CA Govt Code § 3101).
