Note: Permanent and time-limited NC State Government employees must separate from their permanent or time-limited position in order to work in a temporary position.  All temporaries are limited to one NC State Government temporary assignment at a time.

 This temporary position is located in Raleigh, NC -  Wake County.  

 Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $25.00 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application). 

 This temporary position will be assigned to the Department of Public Safety. This position is located at 400 East Tryon Rd., Raleigh, NC 27610.

In this position work performed is advanced journeyman level, and supports management decision-making processes through recording, classifying, examining, analyzing, and interpreting fiscal data and financial transactions. Scope of work requires specialization in one complex accounting function or management of multiple accounting functions including general ledger maintenance, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash
management, budget preparation and oversight, contract management, grants management, auditing, cost accounting, and forecasting. Positions at this level are assigned accounting tasks of significant complexity and require significant decision-making authority with considerable consequence for error. Positions function independently in resolving the complex, novel, or precedent-setting issues and require minimal technical guidance from a higher-level Accountant or Accounting Manager. Work involves establishing agency level fiscal policy and procedures, and designing, evaluating, and modifying accounting systems and structures. Work is characterized by interpretation and application of complex
rules and regulations. Positions at this level often supervise lower-level Accountants. Driving to make Deposits is required for this position. 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • Considerable knowledge of accounting methods, procedures, and accounting practices. 
  • General knowledge of a variety of technology, financial systems, and software packages to create and maintain data. 
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and apply the laws and regulations pertaining to financial records. 
  • Ability to prepare fiscal reports and analyze financial statements. 
  • Ability to present financial information clearly and concisely in oral and written form. 
  • Ability to research, identify, and resolve discrepancies in accounting transactions. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. 
  • Ability to plan, organize, train, and review the work of subordinate personnel. 
  • Ability to supervise lower-level staff or supervise various financial functions of moderate to considerable complexity.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associate degree in accounting from an appropriately accredited institution, and two years of accounting experience; or 

High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of experience in accounting work; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
