Overview

Pay Schedule VI, Grade 27, Regular Schedule: 35 hours per week

A vacancy exists in the Office of Budget and Finance, Retirement Division.
 
A list of eligible applicants will be established based on the examination as outlined below.

Current and future vacancies occurring in any Office or Department of Baltimore County General Government may be filled from the list of eligible applicants.

Examples of Duties

Under general supervision, implements a County insurance benefit plan and/or performs professional administrative duties in support of the employees' retirement systems.

  • Assists with the coordination and implementation of the retirement plan.
  • Maintains, verifies, and processes retirement transactions.
  • Coordinates and prepares for payment premium invoices.
  • Serves as a liaison between employees and insurance providers.
  • Prepares and verifies pension estimates and retirement allowance calculations.
  • Responds to inquiries from active and retired members of the retirement system.
  • Responds to inquiries from County Agencies and Component Units.
  • Provides advice and consultation regarding benefits, retirement, and related policies.
  • Assists members of the retirement system, their families, and their beneficiaries.
  • Provides consultation regarding member's retirement benefits.
  • Speaks before groups on employee benefit topics.
  • Researches and prepares estimates of benefits. 
  • Prepares and maintains accounting and other records and files associated with retirements.
  • Compiles and prepares statistical and narrative reports.
  • Assists with the preparation of documentation for the Board of Trustees and the Medical Board.
  • Assists with the disbursement of benefit payments and return of contributions.
  • Keeps current with applicable laws, codes, and policies.

Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree.
(Additional experience as described in the examples of essential duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.)

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with benefits administration or retirement administration, and customer service.

EXAMINATION PROCEDURE
Applicants will be qualified based on an evaluation of their training and experience, as stated on their application, which includes answers to the supplemental questions. Applicants must state the dates and duties of past and present experience clearly and completely for evaluation purposes.

Conditions of Employment

Employees hired after July 1, 2022 are required to participate in the Baltimore County Employees' Retirement System, with very limited exceptions.

Physical and Environmental Conditions
The work of this classification is essentially sedentary.
