Overview



The Alaska Court System is recruiting for a Court Case Manager 1 (salary range 10) in the Homer Trial Court. This position will be responsible for file maintenance and processing of cases. 
 * Applicants transferring from another State of Alaska agency or with prior legal work experience or education in the legal field may receive consideration for advance step placement. ** Employees working in this job classification will be considered for annual salary increases upon successful completion of a 1-year probationary period. This job classification will promote to salary range 11 after successful completion of three years of service with the court. *
 
 Case File Management:
  • Respond to a large variety of questions, following division standards, in person and by telephone;
  • Maintain all aspects of court filings, criminal, civil, probate, small claims, minor offense, delinquency, and child in need of aid (CINA) files;
  • Accept filings, set up case file, and enter data into the case management system;
  • Calendar dates for hearings and notify parties; prepare and post calendars;
  • Generate and complete audit and case processing reports;
  • Complete and distribute judgments and orders as necessary.

Accounting:
  • Generate receipts for funds received from the public;
  • Balance and close cash drawer;
  • Prepare and record deposit information and generate daily accounting reports;
  • Prepare disbursement requests.

In-Courting:
  • Occasionally serve as a courtroom judicial assistant for judicial offers conducting hearings;
  • Set up courtroom and recording equipment to ensure an accurate record of the proceedings;
  • Take thorough log notes of proceedings;
  • Swear in witnesses and jurors;
  • Maintain court exhibits;
  • Prepare and distribute paperwork during and following the hearing.

Other Duties:
  • Maintain jury data;
  • Process research requests for customers for all case types;
  • Prepare case files for archiving and returning exhibits;
  • Pick-up mail, sort and date stamp all documents;
  • Maintain inventory of updated forms and booklets for all case types and court system handouts; stock forms and publications for the public; maintain the law library;
  • Provide backup support and other duties as assigned.
 
The Work HoursFull-time court employees are currently scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week.  The work hours for this position are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND one year of office clerical experience AND the ability to keyboard at least 40 words per minute (net).

Substitution:

Additional office clerical work experience will substitute for the high school diploma or GED certificate on a month-for-month basis.

Completion of 36 semester credit hours or 48 quarter credit hours of coursework from an accredited college will substitute for the year of required office clerical experience.

Completion of an appropriate vocational training course of study such as legal secretary, paralegal, or office skills will substitute for the required office clerical experience on a month-for-month basis.
