District Attorney Investigator I: $2,141.73 - $2,578.74

District Attorney Investigator II: $2,294.88 - $2,764.91

District Attorney Investigator III: $2,461.37 - $2,967.26

The County of Del Norte District Attorney's Office is seeking a qualified candidate to fill one (1) vacancy for the position of District Attorney Investigator I/II/III. This position is classified as full time. 

This is a responsible investigative position performing various support functions related to criminal and civil prosecution. This work consists of professional duties at an entry-level classification. Employees in this classification receive direct to limited supervision and training within a framework of well-defined policies and procedures. Errors in work or judgment could result in unsolved cases, arrest of innocent parties, loss of life and/or litigation against the county. Under limited supervision performs a wide variety of tasks associated with criminal and civil investigations conducted by the District Attorney’s Office.    

District Attorney’s Investigator II is the second level in the DA Investigator series and performs duties and tasks under minimal supervision.  Employees who advance to this level have demonstrated the ability to adequately fulfill the responsibilities of the position and possess a POST Intermediate Certificate.   

DA Investigator III is the senior level in this classification and performs duties and tasks under indirect supervision.  Employees who advance to this level have the ability to effectively fulfill the responsibilities of the position and possess a POST Advanced Certificate.

Detailed Work Activities

  • Performs criminal and civil investigations conducted by the District Attorney’s Office.
  • Interviews suspects, witnesses, and other relevant parties to obtain information required for prosecutions.
  • Compiles and analyzes evidence and information to obtain an accurate account of the events, participants, and properties involved in an assigned case.
  • Photographs crime scenes and evidence related to criminal cases.
  • Confers with law enforcement agencies in investigation and networking activities.
  • Performs various support function related to departmental operations and activities.
  • Reviews files to check for prior felony arrests or convictions.
  •  Compiles various statistics for departmental and interagency use.
  • Prepares prosecution’s evidence for presentation in the courtroom
  • Assists in scheduling prosecution witnesses.
  • Writes various reports related to assigned cases.
  • Testifies in court in connection criminal prosecutions and civil matters.
  • Reviews a variety of journals and government publications to keep abreast of new and/or changing laws, techniques and regulations related to criminal investigations.
  • Performs related duties as required and/or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Requirements for level I:

  • Graduation from high school or possession of GED certificate, supplemented with course work in Police Science or closely related field.
  • Possession of POST Basic Certificate, or ability to obtain within probationary period.

Requirements for level II:

  • Graduation from high school or possession of GED certificate, supplemented with course work in Administration of Justice, Police Science, or closely related field.
  • Three (3) years responsible experience in law enforcement including one (1) year experience in criminal investigations as a DA Investigator I or equivalent position.
  • Possession of POST Intermediate Certification 

Requirements for level III:

  • Graduation from high school or possession of GED certificate, supplemented with course work in Administration of Justice, Police Science, or closely related field.
  • Three (3) years responsible experience in law enforcement including one (1) year experience in criminal investigations as a DA Investigator I or equivalent position.
  •  Possession of a POST Advanced Certificate.

  • The practices and methods of proper criminal and/or civil investigations.
Ability to:
