Under the direction and supervision of the Chief of Student Support Services, the Director of Special Projects for Student Support Services will be responsible for conducting long range planning for the departments within the Student Support Services Office. The Director will oversee the daily workflow related to projects and their development.

RIDE Certification Requirements
  • Any valid RI teaching certificate
  • Serve as a liaison with all Student Support Service department heads to ensure that organizational goals are met, particularly TAP goals.
  • Directs, leads, organizes, and performs department projects particularly from the Office of Specialized Instruction & the Office of Multilingual Learners
  • Maintains compliance with applicable law, regulations, polices & best practices
  • Comply with timelines and ensure the accomplishment of department objectives
  • Manage and direct design, enrollment, deployment as well as governance of department new initiatives
    • Conduct research on different strategic initiatives
  • Prepare plans with overall strategy for department initiatives
  • Identify and collaborate with other departments to ensure barriers/challenges are addressed to complete projects and/or meet goals
  • Coordinate interactions to ensure streamline of stakeholders and cross functional teams
  • Conduct assessments of current state of operational systems and designs to streamline and optimize workflows across the department
  • Assist in defining key metrics and performance indicators to ensure usage of accountability systems
  • Monitor and assess the successes and challenges with the team and propose adjustments as needed
  • Ensures communication among teams during the implementation of project plans
  • Delegates effectively, ensuring that tam resources are mapped to priority deliverables
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local policies, rules, laws, regulations, and legislation pertaining to multilingual learners, special education and transition services. Knowledge of general education curriculum, program of study and best practices for instruction for multilingual students and students with disabilities and special education eligibilities, supports, and services.
  • Experience with curriculum/instructional design and adaptive technologies
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with other offices, school staff, parents, and community members.
  • Leadership skills in facilitating group processes, including consensus building and conflict resolution
  • Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, including successful experience presenting to large groups.
  • Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with staff, business associates, and general community.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks and prioritize appropriately.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and make independent decisions to reschedule work to meet deadlines or to effectively handle emergency work.
  • Proficient in Microsoft products – word, powerpoint and excel.
  • Knowledge of the Providence metropolitan area, local community organizations, public and private agencies and industries.
  • Ability to complete tasks in a timely manner and meet deadlines.
