Overview

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office is seeking a Grant Manager to maximize grant-seeking opportunities and manage overall grant strategy. Candidates with grant writing experience and knowledge of the Department of Justice grant mechanics are encouraged to apply. 


Location and hours:This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the Minneapolis City Hall, 350 South 5th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55415, and remote as job duties require. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.

In this position, you will:
  • Define and evaluate both the public safety needs of Hennepin County residents and the specific needs of the Sheriff’s Office.
  • Develop the Sheriff’s Office’s comprehensive grant management strategy.
  • Plan and coordinate grant development opportunities that provide funding for Sheriff’s Office initiatives, units, or divisions.
  • Oversee all aspects of grant management from application to administration.
  • Establish new policies and procedures related to grant management and administration.
  • Chair meetings that are relevant to matching the availability of certain grants with the specific needs of the department.
  • Represent the Sheriff’s Office at community meetings and meetings related to grant opportunities.
  • Provide consultation and advice to the Sheriff’s Administration regarding all aspects of grant management.
  • Support with all aspects of managing the Sheriff’s Community Advisory Board.
  • Assist with the Sheriff’s Office community outreach efforts, including project management.
Need to have: 
  • One of the following:
    • Nine years or more experience in general administrative work relating to the management of departmental/organizational operations or in a specialty area appropriate to the position.
    • Bachelor's degree or higher in business administration or other field appropriate to the position and five years or more of experience in general administrative work relating to the management of departmental/organizational operations or in a specialty area appropriate to the position.

    • Writing grants.
    • Overseeing all aspects of grant management from application to administration.
    • Creating new policies and procedures related to grant management and administration.
    • Developing comprehensive grant management strategies for a sheriff's office or municipal police department.
    • Coordinating grant development opportunities that provide funding for a sheriff’s office or a municipal police department.
  • Experience and knowledge of grant application expectations for the United States Department of Justice and Minnesota's Office of Justice Programs.
  • Familiarity with the needs of a sheriff's office or municipal police department.
  • Ability to:
    • Interpret policies, procedures, laws, and regulations.
    • Communicate clearly and concisely in verbal and written form. 
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within and outside the organization.

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office serves the county's 1.2 million residents. State law mandates most of the sheriff's office duties, including managing the county jail, providing security to the district court, and patrolling the waterways in the county.
