Overview

Level I:  $1,859.12 2,221.82, paid bi-weekly
Level II:  $1,954.20 - 2,335.45, paid bi-weekly

Currently there is one (1) position available at Department of Human Services

Candidates are encouraged to indicate ALL acceptable geographical locations on their application which they will accept employment.  Other permanent and temporary appointments will be made as needed. Successful candidates will remain on the eligible list for a period of twelve-months, unless specified otherwise by the Civil Service Commission. 

Exam Schedule:
Written Exam Will be conducted on:  October 17, 2023
Performance/ Oral Exam:  Subsequent testing dates will be posted as applicable. 

Minimum Qualifications/Employment Standards: 
Level I:

High School Diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent and two (2) years of education, training, and/or experience sufficient to obtain the knowledge and skill to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

Volunteer experience may be qualifying if confirmed in writing from a recognized organization.

Level II:
High School Diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent and three (3) years of education, training, and/or experience sufficient to obtain the knowledge and skill to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

Both Levels:
Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Driver's License. 

Incumbents may be required to work a flexible schedule to include weekends and evening hours. Incumbents may also be required to travel extensively within and out of Kern County.

This position works within the Department of Human Services and Employer's Training Resources Departments of Kern County. 


Written Exam (Weight 50%): Will be conducted for the purpose of assessing the applicant's knowledge of basic socioeconomic principles; individual and group behavior principles; community resources; public relations principles; interviewing techniques; applicable local, state, and federal guidelines, regulations, laws, and programs. 

The Human Resources Division may limit the number advancing to the performance exam to approximately the top 20 based upon the final earned scores of the written exam.  Applications must attain at least a 70% on each phase of the examination process. 

Performance Exam (Qualifying Only) The performance exam is a job-related exercise which may include a job performance exercise to demonstrate the ability to solicit a job leads with potential employers. 

Oral Exam (Weight 50%): Will be conducted for the purpose of appraising the applicant's training, education, experience, interest and personal fitness for the position.    

If the number of candidates that pass the written and performance examinations is insufficient to warrant an oral examination, the candidates final score will be solely based on the written exam score.
