The Fresno County Department of Public Health is offering a rewarding and challenging career opportunity for a Social Work professional as a Medical Social Worker II. Incumbents in the Medical Social Worker II classification are responsible for assisting clients and their families in coping with personal and social issues arising as a result of illness and/or health conditions.

The current vacancy is within the Black Infant Health (BIH) Program. The BIH program is an evidence-informed intervention using a group-based approach, which focuses exclusively on empowering Black/African American women and birthing individuals. BIH provides client-centered life planning, goal setting, and referrals to vital care and support services, to improve Black infant and maternal health, as well as decrease health inequities in infant and maternal mortality rates. The selected candidate will conduct participant enrollment activities and case conferencing with local BIH staff, provide case management, facilitate group sessions that focus on mental health issues, and conduct trainings on the basics of maternal and infant mental health. Please note: The eligible list established from this recruitment may also be used to fill both extra-help and permanently allocated positions as vacancies occur. Individuals selected for extra-help appointment may be transitioned to a permanently allocated position at a later date as authorized by the Fresno County Personnel Rules.

Positions in this classification are in Medical Group I - Light Physical Activity (Personnel Rule 8). This group includes positions which require only light physical effort and may include lifting of small, light objects and some bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching. Considerable walking or standing may be involved.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Possession of a master's degree in Social Work that is acceptable within the United States' accredited college or university system.

Experience: One (1) year off full-time paid work experience equivalent to that gained as a Medical Social Worker with the County of Fresno.

License: Possession of a valid Class "C" driver's license, or equivalent, may be required.
