A valid California Class C driver's licenseand a safe driving record is required for this position at the time of hire. Should you move forward to be hired for this position, you will be required to turn in a current copy of your DMV driving record.   
 
 Casual non-benefited employees are limited to working no more than twenty-five (25) hours per week and no more than 900 hours in a fiscal year (July 1-June 30). 
 
The City of Sunnyvale is seeking self-motivated, energetic, responsible individuals interested in supervising youth in school-age, afterschool recreation programs (ages 6-12).  Currently there are vacancies in our Columbia Neighborhood Center work unit responsible for programs/services in community education, recreation and enrichment, health & mental health, and social services for youth and families.

Currently, we are seeking Site Directors for the Fun-on-the-Run (FOTR) program, a mobile recreation unit that staff drives to various locations throughout Sunnyvale to offer recreation activities and programs to youth, ages 7-12. This position will be based multiple locations throughout Sunnyvale, city facilities, parks and school sites.
Essential Job Functions

(May include, but are not limited to the following)
  

  • Organize and lead recreation activities including arts and crafts, sports and games; 
  • Plan and develop curriculum for recreation activities and interactive games for school-age children;
  • Supervise participants and volunteers during programming hours and activities;
  • Take attendance and assist with record-keeping; 
  • Issue, maintain and store equipment and supplies; 
  • Interact and communicate effectively with children, parents, caregivers, volunteers, and City staff; 
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of program participants and volunteers; 
  • Responsible for staff supervision, and training (staff meetings, planning and other duties).
  • Provide excellent customer service;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum age: 18 years old; 
  • Two (2) years or two (2) summers paid or volunteer experience with youth or recreation programs is required;  
  • Applicants are asked to list all paid or volunteer experience in the Work Experience section of the application and in the Supplemental Questions section, as required; 
  • Willingness to obtain First Aid/CPR Certification during paid training; 
  • Must possess a valid California Driver’s license 
  • Ideal candidate is available to:
    •  work varying afternoon hours Monday through Friday. 
    • Work priority program hours, between 1:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. 
    • There may be opportunities to work morning weekday and weekend hours.
  • Comfortable in operating a mobile recreation vehicle (size of a U-Haul truck) after paid training.
Licenses/Certificates
Possession at time of hire and continued maintenance of a valid California Class C driver's license and a safe driving record.

Desirable Qualifications
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish, or Mandarin.
