Overview

As a Software Development Engineer, you will be a member of the optical inter-satellite link team, focusing on the design, implementation, and deployment of software systems to manufacture and test in-house hardware developed for optical communications. You will be responsible for identifying top level requirements and ensuring high quality and innovative designs are pursued, while also supporting other Project Kuiper colleagues with reviewing and improving other embedded system designs. You will work with a variety of stakeholders across software, hardware, systems, and manufacuring teams to help stand up Kuiper's production capabilities and verification process.We are looking for an outstanding engineer who combines superb technical and analytical capabilities with a demonstrated ability to get the right things done quickly and effectively. You will work with a multi-disciplinary team of top-notch engineers and collaborate closely with the optical, electrical, firmware, and opto-mechanical development teams. You should be comfortable with a high degree of ambiguity and relish the idea of solving problems that haven't been solved at scale before. Along the way, you'll learn a lot, have fun and make a positive impact on hundreds of millions of people.

Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Key job responsibilities

- Develop hardware libraries and test sequences in Python or Labview for automated testing equipment.

- Participate in the full life-cycle of development from planning all the way to deployment and maintenance stages

- Develop high level testing automation scripts and management software for hardware manufacturing and QA testing

- Collaborate with design teams, test team, process team and software teams to design and implement software and hardware necessary for manufacturing.

- Write requirements and interface with software team to deliver automated software packages for manufacturing.

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

Redmond, WA, USA

- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

- Experience programming with at least one software programming language

- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

- 2+ years of embedded software development experience

- 2+ years of experience with Python or Labview programming languages

- 2+ years of experience with troubleshooting/debugging with hardware

- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

- Experience developing safety-critical and/or autonomous systems

- Experience developing test equipment and instrumentation software

- Experience with embedded microprocessor tools and firmware development

- Knowledge of Linux environments- Experience with Rust or Python programming language

- Experience working with hardware engineering teams

- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
