As the Sustainable Materials Program Manager, you will be responsible for the driving the implementation of two of Apple’s Zero Waste program initiatives, including construction & demolition waste (C&D) and materials selection efforts. As part of the broader Global Energy & Sustainability team, you’ll work to build partnerships across business groups and drive initiatives in a collaborative way, all with the goal of minimizing waste generation and impact of the built environment. You’ll be adept at aligning business and engineering goals, while navigating applicable regulatory and market constraints. Above all, you must be data-driven and results-oriented.

Key Qualifications

  • Proven ability to communicate program requirements to construction and design teams, and ensure delivery of outcomes with diligent follow up
  • Develop materials program and streamline integration into existing workflows
  • Grasp of ever-changing regulatory waste requirements and market dynamics, from the municipal to international levels; understanding of hauling and waste transportation processes in diverse geographies
  • Experience in managing cross-functional waste or materials programs with demonstrated results in driving progress on program metrics
  • Proven track record of resolving issues, build relationships and achieve consensus
  • Innovative, iterative mentality to address problematic materials and areas for behavioral, design and technological improvement
  • Understanding of carbon impact of material choices, familiarity with life-cycle analyses and environmental product declarations and green building standards (LEED, BREEAM, Living Building Challenge, etc.)
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, able to communicate technical information in a concise way to a non-technical audience, and vice versa


- Divide time roughly 60/40 between construction waste management and sustainable materials - Work with facilities maintenance, retail operations, design, data center, finance, and procurement teams to deliver on program targets. - Develop and maintain robust data management program in conjunction with environmental data and metrics team to measure and report progress - Identify additional areas for focus, e.g. low carbon building materials, product take-back programs, innovative technology. - Support other program teams with occasional data requests and mentorship requests around environmentally preferable operational or procurement decisions.

Education & Experience

- Graduate degree preferred in environmental field with 5+ years of experience - BA/BS with 10+ years’ experience

  • At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $94,300 and $142,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
