Description of Job

**Please note: Shifts will vary based on the needs of the department.**

  • Serves meals, takes orders, cooks to order food, dishes up desserts and salads, put out condiments, fruit and necessary food items, sets, clears, and sanitizes tables, wash dishes, silverware, pots and pans and put them away, rolls silverware, sets up dining rooms.  
  • Acts as a production assistant with regards to food handling as a cook, or cook helper preparing breakfast, lunch and supper meals and other related functions to ensure timely and nutritious meals for residents and staff.   
  • Fills dispensers and stocks refrigerators. (Daily) Cleans juice and coffee machines and fills with product (daily) Stocks resident refrigerator and pantry with food and supplies. (Daily) Takes supplement and beverages to nursing service for distribution (daily).  
  • Maintains store room, i.e. stocking, inventory, cleaning, organizing food and non-foods items to ensure sufficient food supplies and sanitary storage conditions, following state, federal and VA regulations.  (Weekly and as needed)  
  • To ensure that residents have food, beverages and supplements as needed - Daily.  
  • Responsible for knowing residents and what residents needs are as individual or as a group.  
  • Cleans dining room, sweeps and mops floors, cleans steam table, throws trash away, cleans dish room and mops floor daily to ensure sanitation and infection control requirements are completed.  Wipes down tables and chairs; put on clean tablecloths, perform other duties as needed and assigned, complete cleaning duties as assigned to ensure sanitation and infection control requirements are met and completed to ensure a pleasant and comfortable dining experience for residents. - Daily
  • Attend mandatory and non-mandatory in-services and ongoing training program. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights


  • 3 months of experience in an occupational field related to the work (ie. long-term or assisted care living centers, school cafeteria, correctional facility food services, Fast food, Restaurant services, etc)

  • CDPHE recognizedwill substitute for experience.
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Possession of Food Certification(s)
  • Cooking Experience
  • Experience working in a long-term care environment
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member
  • Detail-Oriented

Conditions of Employment:
  • Full Background: CBI name check and fingerprint check, ICON Colorado court database, Medicare fraud database, Reference Checks, Professional License verification (licensure requirements), Drug Screen, CAPS (direct contact with adults – Mental Health Institutes, Regional Centers, Veterans Community Living Centers)
  • Must pass TB test.
  • This position is considered "essential service" and you will be required to report without delay or interruption to provide essential or emergency services to ensure health, safety, and welfare.
  • This position has shift work: day, evening, varying, , rotating, and Holidays.
  • This position may require use, handling, or exposure to hazardous materials, including oven cleaner, sanitizer and bleach.
  • Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must disclose the information on the application and provide an explanation why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify the applicant from the current position.  Absent extraordinary circumstances, prior disciplinary termination or resignation in lieu of termination will disqualify the applicant from future State employment with CDHS.
