About the Role & Internship

ABC7 (WLS-TV) Chicago is the Midwest flagship of the ABC television network. ABC7 leads the market in local news coverage with daily newscasts and has been in the number one position in local news since March 1986! The station’s offices and studios are in The Loop in downtown Chicago.

What You Will Do

Our Special Projects team produces reports for multiple platforms, working with the news director and assistant news director to plan and complete coverage of station initiatives and high-profile events. Our team interacts regularly with community leaders to develop relationships that lead to story ideas.

The Special Projects Team must be able to identify high-impact content and ensure it meets ABC 7’s standards for journalistic integrity and production quality!

  • Will be assisting producers with stories by crafting ideas and researching the topics

  • Will be attending field shoots and interviews with our reporter and or our producer

  • Will be sitting in on the editing of segments

  • Will be setting up interviews

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Someone who knows how to identify impactful stories rooted in journalism

  • Someone who possesses strong writing, communication, and organizational skills

  • A highly motivated self-starter who is willing to take initiative, and tackle challenges

  • A hunger to learn and observe. You are a dedicated team player who is also confident working independently.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Studied journalism or broadcast television in college

  • Experience with Adobe Premiere

Eligibility Requirements & Internship Information

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR must have graduated from a college/university within 6 months at time of application posting OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Professional Internship

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program. 

  • Must possess unrestricted work authorization
